1984 Chapters 2 & 3

Quote: "Thoughtcrime does not entail death; thoughtcrime IS death."

Significance:

For me, this quote could be interpreted in a coupe of ways. Winston could be saying that thoughtcrime is more dangerous than death could ever be. He could also be saying that To commit thoughtcrime would be signing an immediate death warrant. Perhaps he means that thoughtcrime was simply death, nothing more, nothing less. I'm not even sure if Winston himself knew what he was writing.
