1984 Chapter 7-8

Quote: "Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows."

Significance:

This lone just shot out at me. It seems to say that if you are allowed logic, you are allowed unlimited freedom of the mind. That's the meaning I get out of it, anyway. This is also the first time Winston sees freedom as freedom, rather than slavery.

Definitions:

jus primae noctis: law by which every capitalist is allowed to sleep with any women who works in one of his factories
